Tampa, Florida -- The City of Tampa announced Tuesday the official parade route and public viewing areas for demonstrations during the Republican National Convention.

The official parade route will run down Washington Street, turning south at Morgan Street, east on Whiting Street and then south along S. Nebraska Avenue.

The parade route is meant to minimize disruption to traffic in downtown. Groups are still able to hold demonstrations and march in other public areas, such as sidewalks.

The two public viewing areas--totaling over seven acres--are located under the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway along Jefferson Street and one available along S. Nebraska Avenue up to Borein Street.

The public viewing areas allow protestors to be within sight and sound of the Republican National Convention. Along S. Nebraska Avenue and Walton Street, the City of Tampa will provide a stage as well as a sound system for participants.

Approval from the City Council to lease the parking lots along S. Nebraska Avenue and E. Cumberland Avenue to provide space for the public viewing areas is still pending.
