Financial aid. Some get it through loans, others through scholarships or grants. But what about those getting it from "Sugar Daddies" online?
According to a press release from the Info Stream Group, the latter seems to be a trend taking off all over the country, and even more so in the state of Florida.
The release claims that four of Florida's major universities fall on the "Top 20 Fastest Growing Sugar Baby Schools" list for the website, Seekingarrangements.com.
And three of those major schools rank within the top 10.
University of Central Florida in Orlando falls fourth on the list with 221 sign ups in 2012.
University of "Southern" Florida (as the release so calls it) takes a close second to UCF, falling fifth on the list with 212 sign ups last year. And Florida International University in Miami ranks seventh on the list with 187 sign ups.
Florida State University didn't quite make the top ten with its 111 sugar baby accounts. They fall fourteenth on the list.
According to the release, college student memberships increased by 58% on the "mutually beneficial relationship" website, with more students from the South joining than any other region.
They say the average co-ed Sugar Baby receives approximately $3,000 a month in allowances and gifts from her Sugar Daddy to assist with tuition and living expenses.
As mentioned, Florida has the most students signed up for this deal, but are you wondering how other state universities rank on the list?
- Georgia State tops the charts with 292 sign ups
- New York University is second with 285
- Temple University in Philadelphia claims third place with 268
University of Georgia and Penn State University both make an appearance on the list too, adding Georgia and Pennsylvania to the repeat offender states. But Florida is the only state with four schools on the list.
And it doesn't even stop there.
Two other Florida schools don't quite make the top 20, but the website notes them as universities with "significant increases" in membership last year.
University of Florida students' registration rate increased by 53% and "Miami University's" rate went up by 98%.
NOTE: There is a "University of Miami" in Miami, FL, and a "Miami University" in Oxford, OH, but the release claims "Miami University" is one of the Florida schools to have had a significant increase in members.
