CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A woman is facing charges after police say she faked her own pregnancy and then beat a woman with a tire iron during an attempt to steal her baby.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers were called to the Beacon Ridge Apartments off South Boulevard Tuesday night to the report of a kidnapping. When officers got to the apartments, they found two women at the scene.

That's when a man told officers that his wife and his two children had been kidnapped.

During the investigation, officers determined that one of the women they had found at the apartment complex was behind the kidnapping.

Officers say Andrea Endara-Paredes, 24, became friends with the 22-year-old victim and had been helping her find a job.

Endara-Paredes had been faking her own pregnancy, police told WBTV, and had been preparing for a baby at her home though she was not pregnant.

According to a police report, Endara-Paredes assaulted the mother with a tire iron and pepper spray Tuesday night around 9:30 p.m.  She then kidnapped the woman and her two children.

"Endara[-Paredes] pulled a knife on the mother and told her that she was taking her children," CMPD Captain Rod Golding said.

Captain Golding said Endara-Paredes then released the woman and her four-year-old child, but kept her one-month-old little girl.

"Miss Endara agreed to take her back [home] under the conditions that the mother not tell her husband what happened," Captain Golding told WBTV. "And to tell her husband that the one-month-old was kidnapped by two black males in a gray car."

Homicide Detectives were able to locate the little girl unharmed around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning with Endara-Paredes' boyfriend. She was being held in an apartment unit on Knob Oak Lane at the Carmel On Providence Apartments.

"We went over and knocked on that door, and a male came to the door and said that he had the one month old baby," Captain Golding said. "We called medic as a precautionary measure. Medic came out and checked out the baby. Other than a wet diaper, she was fine."

Endara-Paredes is being charged with Attempted Murder, three counts of Kidnapping, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Assault on a Child Under 12.

She was transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office where she remains in custody.

Crime Scene Search responded to the incident location to process the scene and collect physical evidence.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective. In addition, you may also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
