Fort Myers, Florida -- A south Fort Myers teenager awaiting trial on charges of pistol-whipping her mother in March was arrested again Friday, this time on drug charges.
Rachel Hachero, 17, was previously charged with aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a minor and battery after deputies say she pistol-whipped her mother because she wouldn't co-sign on a vehicle purchase. Hachero has pleaded not guilty on those charges.
A pretrial conference on the case is scheduled for Wednesday in juvenile court.
At about 9:30 p.m. Friday, a Lee County sheriff's deputy was alerted to a reckless driver in a red Toyota SUV near Homestead Road and Milwaukee Boulevard in Lehigh Acres. The deputy followed the SUV to a gas station, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
He approached the vehicle as Hachero opened the driver's side door. When the deputy told Hachero about reported concerns about her driving, she replied that she was fine and was looking for gas money, according to the sheriff's office.
The deputy noticed an unopened Four Loko -- an alcoholic, caffeinated drink -- in the pouch of the front driver's door and an open can in the pouch of the front passenger door. A cup with a pink liquid with ice was in the cup holder in the center console, according to deputies.
The deputy could smell alcohol and marijuana inside the vehicle and asked Hachero to step out of the SUV. Hachero immediately reached for her purse, but the deputy took it from her and in a brief struggle placed her under arrest for possession of alcohol by a person under 21.
While searching the vehicle, the deputy found about 7 grams of marijuana, rolling papers, 8 grams of a generic form of Xanax and an ecstasy pill weighing .1 grams.
Hachero began kicking and screaming in the back of the deputy's vehicle while the vehicle was searched, according to the sheriff's office. She slipped out of handcuffs twice and pounded on the windows of the patrol vehicle before being taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
Hachero was additionally charged with resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. An attorney for Hachero's mother, Gary Bass, declined to comment.
