St. Petersburg, Florida - Newly obtained video shot moments after last week's deadly shooting of a St. Petersburg Police officer shows a frantic scene and paramedics rushing to help the downed officer.
Anthony Ciecalone lives less than a block away from where Officer David Crawford was shot and killed Monday, February 21st. He grabbed his digital camera as soon as he heard a barrage of gunfire, not knowing it was an officer who had been shot.
"Honestly, I thought it was the other way around. I thought the police had shot somebody," said Ciecalone, who is related to several law enforcement officers himself.
"When I got over there, I saw the officer on the ground."
Within moments, ambulances and police cruisers were swarming into the area from every direction.
On the video, neighbors can be heard running towards the scene discussing the gunfire, how many shots had been fired, and the shock of so many officers converging on the area.
Ciecalone says his video was taken and reviewed by St. Petersburg Police investigators, who used the footage to look for clues into what happened the night of the shooting.
He says he doesn't need the video to remind him of the horrible sights of last Monday night, but hopes the video reminds others of the dangers police officers face every day.
