St. Petersburg Shooting: History of St. Petersburg Officers killed in the line of duty

St. Petersburg, FL - Monday, January 24, 2011 two St. Petersburg Police officers were shot and killed in the line of duty. That brings the total number of officers killed within the department to 14.

According to the city of St. Petersburg's website, the fifth officer killed in the line of duty was Officer Frank A. Pike in 1933. Officer Pike was directing traffic for church services at the intersection of First Avenue and Fourth Street North on May 19, 1933 when he was struck and killed by a motorist whose foot reportedly slipped off the brake and hit the accelerator.
