St. Petersburg Shooting: History of St. Petersburg officers killed in the line of duty

St. Petersburg, FL - Monday, January 24, 2011 two St. Petersburg Police officers were shot and killed in the line of duty. That brings the total number of officers killed within the department to 14.

According to the city of St. Petersburg's website, the second officer killed in the line of duty was Officer E. A. George. Officer George was standing at the desk in the St. Petersburg Police Station when a fellow officer arrived with a prisoner on a minor charge. During a struggle the prisoner took the arresting officer's pistol which discharged, killing Officer George. The prisoner was later shot and killed after barricading himself in a cell with the weapon.
