Temperatures in the 20s and 30s are being observed all around the viewing region with mid to upper 30s around Pinellas County. The Hard Freeze Warning was extended further south to include Pasco, Polk and Hillsborough Counties until 9:00am this morning. Given the magnitude of cold air and duration, this will be a potentially devastating freeze for agricultural interests around our viewing region and state.
In addition, Tampa recorded a temperature of 27 before the sunrise and that broke the prior record of 30 set in 1999.
This afternoon... tons of sunshine but temperatures will again struggle! Highs only from 50 - 55 and typically thats near our average morning low temperature.
Tonight... potential for another freeze as high pressure sits right over us. Skies will be clear and winds will be light to calm creating better frost conditions as well. Low 31 but colder in inland and northern areas.
NNW winds 10 - 17 with 2 to 4 foot seas and a moderate chop on the bay.
Tonight into Thursday's Forecast...
With the arctic high pushing directly over the region, skies will be clear and there will be less of a breeze. Conditions for frost will be much improved and I do expect another freeze across the region (except for Pinellas County). Low tonight 31 except 23 - 30 in outlying areas away from the water.
Sunny skies Thursday with a brief warm up in the afternoon ahead of our next cold front scheduled to arrive Friday. Highs from 58 - 64 across the region and that's still below normal!
