Tampa, Florida -- For dozens of couples, their "happily ever after" just got a lot happier on this Valentine's Day. They all became American citizens.

And they took the oath in a special ceremony, standing next to their sweethearts.

When he married Beverly 40 years ago in Jamaica, Joshua Sitaram never dreamed he would spend this Valentine's Day in an auditorium full of American flags.

But along the way, Beverly started to have a dream of her own. How long has she been waiting for this day?

"For about 25 years," she said. "I just love this country."

Along with 36 other couples from 24 countries, the Sitarams took a deep breath -- and took the oath of allegiance as naturalized citizens of the United States.

On Valentine's Day, becoming Americans, side by side.

What is it about this country that makes Joshua feel like he belongs?

"The laws of this country, and the people -- and the food!"

"I'm so happy," his wife added. "Proud."

There is so much to love about their new country, and that includes each other -- the loved ones who will now share it with them.

They say to truly experience love, you have to give something up, and each of these new citizens has done that.

When they walked into the ceremony at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Tampa, they handed over their green cards.

They'll never need them again.
