New Port Richey, Florida -- A man who lost all of his belongings in a fire says he is just thankful he made it out with his best friend.
His best friend is his dog, Trooper, who also saved his life.
On Saturday morning, Trooper's owner was sleeping in his home at Holiday Mobile Home park. The man woke up when he heard Trooper scratching and barking at his bedroom door. When he opened the door he found his living room filled with thick smoke.
He and Trooper made it out safely but the home was completely engulfed with flames and had to be extinguished by fire crews from Port Richey and Pasco County Fire rescue.
The owner said that if it was not for Trooper he would not have made it out alive, and even though he lost all of his belongings he is thankful he still has his best friend.
