Tampa, FL -- Surrounded by her attorneys, Nicole Oulson made an emotional statement about her husband and the life she and their 22-month-old daughter Alexis now face without him.

"It's just unimaginable," said Oulson.

With her arm still in a cast, Oulson spoke publicly for the first time since a single bullet pierced her hand and into her husband's chest.

That shot killed 43-year-old Chad Oulson inside the Grove 16 movie theater in Wesley Chapel.

"Me and my husband didn't get a date night very often, much less a whole day to spend together... so I was just so excited and looking forward to spending the day with the love of my life at a place of entertainment. You know, family entertainment," she said.

But during the movie previews, an argument over Chad texting erupted in gunfire.

The alleged shooter, 71-year-old Curtis Reeves, is a retired Tampa Police Captain. Reeves remains behind bars, charged with murder.

"And just to think in the blink of an eye, my whole world just got shattered into a million pieces. And now I'm left trying to pick them up and put them all back together. And it's so hard, and it's so unbearable," said Oulson.

Reeves faces another court hearing on February 5, when his attorneys will ask a judge to release him on bail.

It's a move Oulson's lawyers strongly oppose, calling Reeves a public threat.

"Everyone with a cell phone's at risk. I mean, you never know when this guy's gonna go off again," said Oulson's civil attorney, T.J. Grimaldi.

"I don't know how anyone could honestly say after the circumstances that happened in this case that anybody's going to be able to convince a judge reasonably that the community's safe if this gentleman's out," added Grimaldi's law partner, Stephen Leal.

Her lawyers say Oulson has a very clear recollection of what happened inside the theater, and is not pleased with Reeves' claims of self-defense.

She described this as a time of "horrible sadness" for her family, and repeatedly thanked the public for its support and prayers.

As for a pending civil suit, Oulson's lawyers say for now they are cooperating with the criminal investigation, but that they're leaving all options open.

The law firm has set up a fund to help benefit the Oulsons' daughter, Alexis. There are also multiple fundraising events scheduled that will do the same.
