Plant City, Florida - Plant City's police chief, Steven Singletary, was placed on administrative leave, but the circumstances surrounding an investigation into him remains a mystery.

"That would be concerning, I would think, to everybody," said Plant City resident Naomi Figel.

Figel wants to know why her chief has been pulled off the job, and why city leaders are not more forthcoming.

City manager Greg Horwedel would only confirm to 10 News that allegations were brought to his office last week. He said a determination was made to pull the chief from his role and place him on paid administrative leave until the investigation is over.

Still, Horwedel would not divulge what the allegations are or whether it will result in the 45-year-old chief losing his job.

"At this time, I don't want to make a comment, to be fair to all parties involved ... to let the investigation work itself through the process," said Mayor Mary Thomas Mathis.

When pressed for more details, the mayor declined comment.

"Now that people know, should they be concerned?" 10 News asked Mayor Mathis.

"No, I think the citizens needs to realize that the police department is still up and running. They will not skip a beat," said the mayor.

Singletary has been with the department since 1996 and took over the job of police chief in April of 2013.

While he is on leave, Sergeant Jerry Stwan has taken over as interim police chief until the investigation is over.

City manager Greg Horwedel said he expected the investigation to be short. After it is complete, he said all the details will be revealed to the public.
