TAMPA, Florida (AP) - A trust fund has been established to help the family of the man who was fatally shot in a Florida movie theater.
In a statement issued Thursday night, attorneys for the family of 43-year-old Chad Oulson say the trust fund's details will be released shortly.
The statement said that Oulson's wife, Nicole, was undergoing surgery and other treatment.
The Oulsons were shot Monday afternoon at a movie theater in Wesley Chapel during an argument with a 71-year-old man over texting. Curtis Reeves is charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bail.
Nicole Oulson's lawyers say she is "grieving the death of her husband" and comforting the couple's young daughter.
The statement says Nicole Oulson will "make further statements when she can".
"To all of our friends and colleagues in the media:
As the attorneys for the Oulson family, we understand the media's need for information during this very difficult time.
We will attempt to provide it when possible.
At this moment, Nicole Oulson is grieving the death of her husband, Chad Oulson, who was killed in this tragic shooting. At the same time, Mrs. Oulson is comforting the couple's 22-month-old daughter, who has lost her father.
As has been reported, Mrs. Oulson was wounded in the shooting. Even today, she is undergoing surgery and other medical treatment.
While Mrs. Oulson and her family focus on recovering from this terrible loss, they ask that media members do not contact them, and ask that you instead contact us, as their attorneys, for any information or comments on their behalf.
Mrs. Oulson will make further statements when she can, and we will let you know exactly when she decides to do so.
This case has moved many members of the community to ask whether they can donate to the surviving family members. In response, we are setting up a trust fund, and we will provide details shortly. In the meantime, those who desire to respond immediately can send checks to our law firm at the address below and made out to the Chad Oulson Memorial Fund."
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. at Loyless Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to service.
