Tampa, Florida -- Black Friday has pretty much been a day focused on deep discounts offered by major retailers, but mom-and-pop stores are vying for some attention, too.

Locally-owned businesses in Seminole Heights are hoping that shoppers look to them for Small Business Saturday.

"It's going to be different from black Friday," said Kendra Bailey, owner of Health Mutt, a pet supermarket on the corner of N. Central Ave and East Hanna. "Everyone's still offering sales and you're going to get your really nice unique holiday items."

Bailey and several other local business have put their own spin in the Small Business Saturday campaign.

They've partnered for what they are calling the Holiday Shop Hop.

Shoppers who visit 12 participating locally-owned businesses would be entered into a drawing for prizes.

"Seminole Heights has been transitioned over the last few years because we had really no retail and no restaurants and now the neighborhood is booming," said Greg Curtis, owner of Cleanse Apothecary on N. Florida Ave.

Curtis, who also live in the Seminole Heights Community, says Saturday will about reaching out to new customers and creating awareness that shopping local matters.

"Our customers are like our family. We know them, we know their husbands, their wives, their children."
