CLEARWATER, Florida -- Bill Young stunned supporters Friday afternoon announcing he will not run for his late father's district 13 congressional seat, at least not during this election.
Congressman Bill Young's tenure spanned seven decades in Washington before passing away last month leaving his seat vacant.
There were many people urging his son to run for congress but in the end Young II says his decision came down to timing and most of all his young family.
He says while he's not ruling out politics in the future there are plenty of qualified conservative Pinellas County residents ready now who would do great in Washington.
So far, no Republicans have announced their plans to run for the seat. Two Democrats, former Florida gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink and lawyer Jessica Ehrlich, have announced their candidacies.
Gov. Rick Scott announced a primary election will be held on January 14, and a general election to fill the vacant seat will be on March 11.
