13-year-old bicyclist hospitalized in New Port Richey hit and run, driver sought

New Port Richey, Florida -- Authorities are asking for any information on a hit and run crash involving a 13-year-old girl Friday afternoon.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say around 4:04 p.m. Friday, a Toyota Camry was heading north on US Hwy 19 at Avery Road when the car hit the teen who was crossing the highway on her bicycle.

The girl was taken to St. Joseph's All Children's Hospital with serious injuries.

After the crash, the driver of the Camry fled the scene and was last seen making a U-turn and heading south on US Hwy 19.

The vehicle is described as a red late-model Toyota Camry with front end collision damage and driven by an unknown driver.
