Shelly Ann Grimes (right) was struck and killed by a hit and run driver Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013.
Brandon, Florida -- Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office detectives found the vehicle believed to be involved in a deadly hit and run accident on Saturday night in Brandon.
59-year-old Shelley Grimes was killed while walking her dog across the street at intersection just three minutes away from her home at the intersection of Providence Road and Providence Ridge Boulevard.
Deputies say a black Chrysler 300 hit her and kept driving. A witness told deputies three people were in the car.
The family dog ran home after the accident.
On Monday an anonymous tip led detectives to the vehicle. Public Information Officer Debbie Carter said the damage to the Chrysler is consistent with the crash.
The Grimes family is holding on, hoping for more answers, but pleased about finding the car.
"We are all feeling a little bit of relief that this tragedy is not going to be laid under the rug and just forgotten," said a close family friend, Kim Hall.
"I have known Shelley and her family for 23 years, and she and her daughter were a huge part of my dance studio and we were all very good friends."
Shelley's husband Dennis Grimes, said off-camera he is trying very hard to get through the day and is so grateful for all the love and support of his friends and neighbors.
"Ashley, (Shelley and Dennis' daughter) called me right away Saturday night and then I went on to Shelley's Facebook a little bit later and wrote on her wall, 'Don't worry, I will take care of Ashley. Don't worry.'"
Hall said she has always been like a second mother to Shelley's two children, Ashley and Jason. They are both adults now.
The Grimes were married for 41 years and they loved to travel.
Detectives are talking with people who might have been involved in the accident and are trying to figure out who was behind the wheel.
