Tampa, Florida -- More than 1,500 furloughed civilian workers reported back to MacDill Air Force Base Monday, according to TBO.com.
The workers have reportedly lost a combined $400,000 in pay daily since the government shutdown. Capt. Sara Greco, a spokeswoman for the 6th Air Mobility Wing, tells TBO the workers "will come back as soon as practical."

Although the civilians are coming back to work, Greco said it's too early to say when base support operations -- like the tax-free commissary -- will reopen. Also due to the shutdown, military contracts that were on hold last week are still on hold.
"The situation will continue to have an adverse effect on the greater Tampa Bay community until the government shutdown situation is resolved," Greco said in a press release.
