DUNEDIN, Florida - Located in the newly renovated Publix shopping center on Curlew Road, there's a steady stream of customers ordering take-out from Dunedin's Jing Jing Garden.

We got the General Tso's chicken and chicken fried rice," said Carlo Ciliento, who was trying out the restaurant for the first time.

He and his girlfriend say they were unaware a week earlier Jing Jing Garden was shut down by the state as a temporary emergency closure. The restaurant racked up 17 violations, five high priority, including food not covered in the walk-in cooler; knives stored in cracks between the equipment; and roach activity.

The inspector documented over 50 lives roaches under the prep table, inside the plastic wrap dispenser, under the roll rack, on the restroom floor, and inside a container of flour. The inspector also documented an additional 40 dead roaches throughout the kitchen, along with household roach spray, and no copy of the restaurant's latest inspection report.

The business was allowed to reopen the following day, so we wanted to see how cleaned up this kitchen really was.

10 News stopped in last Wednesday, where manager Tim Wang met us at the door, immediately providing a copy of his latest inspection report and welcoming our camera into the kitchen.

"Okay, just go ahead," said Wang with a smile.

In contrast to their previous inspection, on our visit the kitchen appeared tidy and organized. There was soap at the sink and almost all the food was now covered and up 6" off the floor in the walk-in cooler. We also checked the box of plastic wrap, and the bulk storage containers, where an inspector found problems in the flour a week earlier.

Everything looked very clean. All of the surfaces appeared freshly cleaned with no sign of any contamination.

About the only issues we could find were eggs left out at near room temperature, what appeared to be restaurant menus lining food trays, and a single dead insect in the kitchen sink. Everything else seemed up to code.

"We did a good job," said a proud Tim Wang. "We do extra clean ... Thank you!"

It was reassuring news for customers.

"Things happen," said customer Lindsay Medling. "I think sometimes people deserve a second chance to turn things around."
