Siesta Key, Florida -- Siesta Key residents are dealing with two days of heavy rain saturating the ground that's creating a river around homes and along some main arteries through the Island.

"I'm not used to this," said Rick Matschke. "I've been trying get things picked up off the ground all day."

Matschke is visiting this week from Newtown, Ct. and is house-sitting for his sister.

"She said the water should not get into the house even though it looks like it might."

By 3 p.m. Tuesday, the water was about six to seven inches deep in parts of his yard and about two to three inches from entering inside his front and back doors.

"I had to bring all three of her bulldogs inside, they usually play in the pen here, but it's under water," said Matschke.

He walked barefoot through the almost knee deep water around his yard pointing to the outside air conditioner and how the water was slowly creeping upwards into it -- but had not made it yet. His streets are also flooding along the sides of Ocean Boulevard and Gleason Avenue. However, vehicles did not get stuck anywhere. They just maneuvered around the flooded areas.

Matschke's sister said the city drain will keep it from coming into the house because once it gets that high it drains faster.

"We will see if that is true," said Matschke.

More rain is expected through Thursday.
