Fundraisers around the Bay area are planned to help the family of 12-year-old Rebecca Sedwick. All proceeds will help pay for her funeral.
Two fundraisers are Saturday night, one at Sluggers in Brandon on Bloomingdale Avenue, starting at noon. Another fundraiser is planned at Tadpoles in Brandon, starting at 6 p.m. It's a $5 donation at the door.
And on Sunday in Lakeland, there's a car wash fundraiser for Rebecca at the 7-Eleven on US 98 North and Daugherty Road. That's from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Rebecca died after jumping off an abandoned cement plant earlier in the week. Polk Sheriff Grady Judd says that cyber-bullying from more than a dozen former classmates ultimately drove herself to suicide. An investigation is under way, but so far, no arrests have been made.
