ST. PETERSBURG, Florida -- St. Petersburg residents will get to vote on the future of the St. Petersburg Pier on Tuesday, August 27.
A referendum is asking voters if they'd like to fire the architectural company behind the pier's proposed "Lens" design:
"Shall an ordinance be added to the City of St. Petersburg existing ordinances that would require the City to send a notice of termination, within five business days of the effective date of the ordinance, to Michael Maltzan Architecture, Inc. to terminate the existing architect/engineering agreement between the City of St. Petersburg and Michael Maltzan Architecture, Inc., which agreement was approved by City Council Resolution Number 2012-233 on May 17, 2012?"
A vote of "Yes" means you want to scrap the Lens project and terminate the city's contract with its designer, Michael Meltzen Architecture, Inc.
A "No" vote means you want to keep the Lens design.
