CLEVELAND (WKYC) -- East Cleveland Police exclusively tell our sister station WKYC that Michael Madison has confessed to one murder.

Madison is being held in connection with three bodies that were discovered in East Cleveland during the weekend.

Each body had been wrapped in plastic.

The first body was discovered Friday, the two others were found Saturday.

The medical examiner says each body was in advanced stages of decomposition and it will take days to identify the women and determine how they died.

Madison, who is a registered sex offender, is expected to make his first court appearance at 11 a.m. Monday where charges are expected to be filed.

Police say Madison has been cooperative.

City officials, meanwhile, will be holding a press conference about the situation at the same time.

The Facts

People of East Cleveland are shocked after three bodies were discovered wrapped in plastic. The first was discovered Friday followed by two more Saturday.

Sunday volunteers from the neighborhood were told to expect to find more remains in the area of Shaw and Hayden avenues.

Community members, alongside police, searched over 12 streets and roughly 50 abandoned homes for evidence of more victims that may be part of a serial killing spree.

During the search cadaver dogs lead investigators to a lot near the area where 3 other bodies were found. Other cadaver dogs also hinted at the same area.

Three crime scene trucks and an evidence recovery team were brought in to check the lot. Evidence technicians analyzed the area for hours but nothing turned up.

The search was called off Sunday night.
