St. Petersburg, Florida-- St. Pete Police are currently investigating multiple, related shootings Tuesday night, one of which involved an officer.
According to preliminary reports, St. Petersburg Police officers first responded to the Dover Apartments off the 3500 block of 35th Ave. N after receiving reports of shots fired in the area.
Upon arrival, officials said they found 21-year-old Alyssa Dudley inside an apartment with several gunshot wounds. Dudley was transported to a local hospital as a "trauma alert", where she received surgery for her "life-threatening" injuries.
Updated reports said officers from the crime scene were able to identify the suspect as Dudley's former, live-in boyfriend, 19-year-old Carlos Crompton.
They learned he left in a black Chevy sedan before they arrived, and narrowed in on a relative's home off the 4200 block of 14th Avenue South as Crompton's possible location.
After heading to the home, officers reportedly found Crompton standing outside next to his parked car with a handgun. As they confronted and approached him, he grabbed a black .38 special revolver from his car and fired one round at two police officers.
The officers were not injured, but reportedly fired back at the suspect- hitting him and causing a life-threatening injury.
Crompton was transported to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead shortly after 10 p.m.
The investigation continues. 10 News will continue with updates as soon as they become available.
