LAND O' LAKES, Florida- Debbie Patsos' emotions have gone from anguish, to anger.

"I'm furious," said Patsos Thursday evening, five days after her pet cat "Peggy" was euthanized four doors down from her house by an animal control worker who claims the cat was severely injured.

"I want answers and I want action," she said.

She and the neighbor who found her lost cat have said an animal control officer's account of what happened is inaccurate. A statement from the county reads the cat "had been injured by severe trauma."

"He never examined her," said Patsos. "If he had, he would have seen immediately, it's not an injury, it's a missing paw."

"They're lying! They're lying flat out," said Casey McCarthy, the neighbor who lives four doors down and found the cat limping in his garage.

In a call on a recorded Pasco County line, McCarthy can be heard telling the dispatcher about the cat's condition:

-Dispatcher: Is it in imminent danger of dying?

-McCarthy: I don't think so. I put down water and it came down and drank.

The dispatcher quizzed McCarthy on the cat's condition and said animal services would only respond if the cat might die.

-Dispatcher: So yes or no, you think it's in imminent danger of dying?

-McCarthy: Yeah... it probably won't make it until tomorrow as far as I'm concerned. It's probably going to go into shock and die.

McCarthy said the officer loaded the cat up and pulled off without searching the neighborhood for the owner, and then used lethal injection before Peggy ever arrived at the shelter for an exam.

"I'm blown away. I made the call, I tracked them down in an effort to get an injured cat help. I didn't get help, I sent it to its death," said McCarthy.

"I'm angry now, and I want justice for her," said Patsos of her beloved cat Peggy. "I don't want this to happen to someone else's cat"
