Tampa, Florida - There are several events scheduled this weekend in the Bay area to honor our fallen heroes ahead of Memorial Day on Monday.

Memorial Day Remembrance - Tampa

Sunday morning at 11 a.m. a Memorial Day Ceremony is being held at Veterans Memorial Park and Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins, Jr. Museum at 3602 Highway 301 in Tampa.

The Veterans Council of Hillsborough County, Inc. will hold a Memorial Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Park and Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins Jr. Museum on Sunday, May 26, at 11 a.m.

The ceremony will feature patriotic songs from Charles Haugabrooks, remarks from Frank Strom, Managing Director of Hillsborough County's Division of Veterans Affairs; Walt Raysick, President of the Veterans Council of Hillsborough County; and a keynote speaker from U.S. CENTCOM on MacDill Air Force Base.

Following the speeches, the Scottish American Military Society will conduct the POW/MIA Missing Man Remembrance Celebration, and the area's Gold Star Wives, Mothers and Families will present a wreath to honor Hillsborough County's fallen warriors. The Riverview detachment of the Marine Corp League will conclude the ceremony with a rifle salute and playing of taps.

Immediately after the ceremony, there will be a brief groundbreaking at the base of the Battle Cross of the Iraqi Freedom War Memorial. The groundbreaking will be held near the entrance to the park at 602 Highway 301. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Memorial Day Remembrance - Lakeland

A special church service is being held at Calvary Baptist Church at 1945 N. Florida Avenue in Lakeland on Sunday at 10:45 a.m. to honor our fallen heroes who've made the ultimate sacrifice.

This year the congregation will honor three heroes including Army Spec. Brittany Gordon from St. Petersburg, Florida who was killed in action on October 13, 2012; Staff Sgt. Bryan Berky, U.S. Air Force who was killed in action on September 12, 2009 in Afghanistan and Army Sgt. Terry M. Lisk who was killed in action on June 26, 2006 in Iraq.

Sgt. Major Doyle Braddy, U.S. Marine Corps Retired will be performing the final roll call. Lake Region High School J.R.O.T.C. will present the colors. Army Chaplain Captain Kevin Winemiller will be the key note speaker.

The church choir will be singing patriotic music and there will be "Dinner on the Grounds" after the service. The public is invited.

Over the past eight years the church has honored 42 families from all across America and from as far away as Connecticut and Rhode Island.

5th Annual Freedom Fest - Oldsmar

The Upper Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce is holding their fifth annual Freedom Fest celebration on State Street in Oldsmar Memorial Day weekend.

Sunday May, 26 is the last day of the event.

Organizers say Freedom Fest is presented to honor our first responders - police, fire, fire rescue and our active and retired military.

Organizers also say the event features some of the most popular rock bands in the region including Stormbringer, Cross Eyed Larry, The Black Honkeys, Bobby Friss, Radio Crime, Greg Billings and more. There will also be plenty of great food and crafts vendors plus a Kids Fun Zone so this is an event for the entire family.

It is free and open to the public.
