New Port Richey, Florida -- 10 News learned Friday the elderly man trapped in his car for days has died. Justyn "Jay" Ambrozia's neighbor informed 10 News reporter Eric Glasser of his passing Thursday and we then confirmed it with the medical examiner.
Ambrozia, 90, made headlines on May 7 when neighbors found him in his car after he was trapped for days surviving on snacks he had from a quick trip to the grocery store. It was during that trip to the store that he tripped and fell breaking his arm and hip.
Store employees helped him up, out the front door and into his car with his groceries. He then, somehow, managed to make his way home but once he got there, he couldn't get out.
Days passed. Ambrozia said he blew his horn and hollered, but no one heard him. Finally, a neighbor walking by with his dog noticed something was wrong and that's when he was found.
Ambrozia underwent surgery at Medical Center for Trinity for his hip and was reportedly doing well for a while before his death Thursday.
His autopsy revealed he died due to complications of blunt trauma and his death was classified as accidental.
