CLEARWATER, Florida - The little girl who lost her feet during a lawnmower accident more than a month ago is now back in preschool. Ireland Nugent returned to Trinity Presbyterian Church in Clearwater on Monday.
"It's very exciting. A little nerve-racking. Of course we've been together now four weeks. So I'm really nervous about how she's going to be. Make sure she's OK and all that. But I'm excited for her," said Ireland's mother, Nicole Nugent.
Her mother said since last week, Ireland was ready to go back.
"Once we got home, she kind of started talking about going to school, her friends, seeing her teacher," said Nicole. "I wanted her to experience her friends and kind of feel normal again."
It is, however, a new normal. Ireland now has someone watching her at all times and special braces to protect her from being bumped and moved.
Nicole - the church's preschool director- is glad to be back also, especially with Ireland as she continues her recovery.
"She's always been kind of a 'roll with the punches' kind of girl and she's just a little fighter," said the mother.
On Sunday, the Nugents went back to church for the first time. The congregation has helped raise more than $110,000 to pay for Ireland's medical care.
