Carrollwood, Florida -- Hillsborough Sheriff's detectives are investigating what led a Carrollwood mother to shoot her own daughter before taking her own life.
The sheriff's office says 911 dispatch received a call around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday from Julie Hill who asked for police to come to her home.
When they arrived, they found Hill inside her home with a gunshot wound to the chest -- conscious and breathing. A 38-caliber revolver lay next to her on the floor.
When deputies asked her what happened, they say Hill told them she shot herself after she had shot her daughter, Tracey. Deputies then checked the home and found Tracey in her bedroom with at least one gunshot wound to the head.
Fire Rescue crews responded and took Julie to a local hospital where she died a short time later. Tracey was pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives still processing the scene and are awaiting a medical examiner's report to officially rule the cause of death. Detectives are also interviewing any friends and/or family of the two to try and determine any past history that led up to this tragic event.
