BOSTON, Ma. -- Runners in the Boston Marathon close in on the finish line. Then it's pure panic. An explosion rips apart the VIP section of the grandstand. There's smoke, screaming, and confusion.

Fifteen seconds later, a block away, there's another blast. The second blast hurls glass and metal barricades into the crowd. The stands buckle and collapse. The images are ghastly familiar. Victims stare with blank eyes. They are in shock.

Police and first responders rip away the barricades to help the victims. Runners turn from the area, terrified another blast is imminent. A massive crowd surges away from the sidewalk to find safety.

Tampa resident Mike McKenna was there for the race and describes what he saw.

"All of a sudden, there was, 'Boom!' Then another not far away.  That's when people started running in every direction away from the blasts," says McKenna.

The still images from the blast are chilling. Dozens of people shredded by flying glass. Metal ball bearings used to make the bomb buried deep in skin. There are concussions, broken bones, lacerations, and even dismemberment.

But despite the carnage, James Jarboe, the former head of the FBI domestic terrorism team, says this was no organized attack. It's more likely one person with a vendetta. "Terrorism can be international or domestic, and that's what we saw here.  Someone wanted to make a point," he says.

As the feds piece together the attack and analyze the bombs, Americans are reminded that speculation and conspiracy theories serve no purpose until the investigation is complete.

"People should just wait until the investigation is complete. There shouldn't be any jumping to conclusions before they know what the final verdict is," says Jarboe.
