Sharyn and Joshua Hakken make their first court appearance on Thursday, April 11 2013.
Tampa, Florida -- Joshua and Sharyn Hakken, the parents accused of kidnapping their own children and taking them to Cuba, will continue to be held without bond.
A bond hearing was originally scheduled for Friday, after the Hakkens made their first court appearance a day earlier. But on Thursday night, the husband and wife rescinded their request for a hearing.
Both Hakkens are being represented by public council, saying they can't afford private lawyers. During an arraignment hearing Friday morning, the public defender said he had no intention of asking for bond any time in the future.
Last week, deputies say Joshua tied up Sharyn's mother, abducted the boys and the family took off to Cuba on a sailboat. Cuban authorities quickly turned the family over to U.S. officials, who returned them to Florida.
The next court date for the Hakkens is May 30.
