Brooksville, Florida -- Two local Hernando County schools were placed on lock down late Wednesday morning after students and administrators reported hearing what sounded like gunshots.
Authorities arrived at Hernando High School around 11:35 a.m. and immediately canvassed the wooded area south of the school where the approximately four shots were heard coming from.
After clearing that area and all surrounding areas, the precautionary lock downs were lifted at Hernando High and Brooksville Elementary schools.
Officers did make contact with a man who lives behind the school. He was not armed and told them he didn't know of anyone that may have been shooting or armed in the area.
The sheriff's office reports no one found anything suspicious in nature.
