TAMPA, Florida (AP) - A man accused of killing two Tampa Police officers has been found guilty of first degree murder and robbery in an unrelated fatal shooting.
Opening statements were made Monday in the trial of Dontae Morris. He is accused in the May 31, 2010 shooting of Rodney Jones in Tampa.
Officials say that one month after that incident, Morris shot and killed officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis. Prosecutors are seeking a death sentence in that case. Morris also faces separate murder trials in the killings of Harold Wright and Derek Anderson.
The jurors in the current trial were selected from Orlando because too many potential jurors in Tampa were aware that Morris is also awaiting trial in the four other slayings.
