St. Petersburg, Florida --  More information is coming in about why police opened fire while serving a search warrant.

St. Petersburg police had a search warrant and were looking for drugs. But when they got to the house, several people hanging out in the carport took off.

Police say the individuals hanging out jumped in a car and started to head right towards officers. They managed to hit one of the people in the Toyota Camry, but the driver kept on going.

Police say they followed the car which eventually stopped and the men inside tired to run away.

Reportedly, the police were able to arrest three people.

The man shot by police, Danardrick Chance, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wound to a leg. His charges are pending.

Police also arrested Reginald Thompson and Ernest Jenkins who are both charged with possession and intent to sell Marijuana.

Marcus Rowe, a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested as well for obstruction.

Police say they're still looking for 2 other people they think were also in the car.
