Tampa, Florida -- Eighty people from around the Bay area and even farther were sworn in and officially became U.S. Citizens on Thursday morning.

The ceremony took place at the US Citizenship and Immigration Services building in Tampa, along Hoover Blvd. It was in honor of Black History Month. Florida Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll served as the keynote speaker.

"I feel so excited. This is my American dream," said Venezuelan Mirtha Perez.

Immigration officials said about 14,000 people are sworn in at the Tampa location every year.
