TAMPA, Florida -- Jill Kelley has broken nearly three months of silence about the David Petraeus scandal and her involvement in it.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, she says the incident has taken a toll on her family, including her young kids.
"It was devastating," Kelley said. "To have your privacy invaded is truly-there are no words to describe it. Instead of enjoying a family birthday party, I had paparazzi storming my front lawn, pushing down the door. There are no words to describe the panic and fear at that moment."
In an op-ed in The Washington Post, the Kelley family blames the media for "[filling] our silence with innuendo and falsehoods." The insinuation that Jill was involved in an extramarital affair is preposterous and hurtful to the family, they write. "This small sample of junk reporting was emotionally exhausting and damaging - as it would be to the strongest of families."
Kelley's side of the story comes on the same day General John Allen was cleared of allegations he wrote potentially inappropriate emails to Kelley.
