Pasco County declares local state of emergency

New Port Richey, Florida -- The Pasco County Board of County Commissioners have issued a local state of emergency in preparation for Tropical Storm Isaac. 

The path of the storm is still not clear. As Tropical Storm Isaac enters the Straits of Florida the National Hurricane Center (NHC) can better predict the storm track.

According to the NHC, Tropical Storm Isaac is approaching south and central Florida and may be near the Pasco County area around 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27. 

Winds are expected to increase beginning late Sunday Night. The County's Emergency Management is in constant contact with State and Regional emergency agencies.

Pasco County's Resident Information Center (RIC) will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in order to assist residents and visitors' preparation for the approaching severe weather. The RIC's information line is (727) 847-2411/8959.

Citizens are encouraged to visit the County's Emergency Management website to download a Hurricane Guide. On this page residents can find evacuation maps, shelter and information for special needs personnel.

To assist in the preparation the county has sandbags available for residents.
