Bradenton, Florida -- A Manatee County high school principal has been suspended from his position following an internal investigation into his role in an off-campus incident.

Manatee County Schools Superintendent Dr. Tim McGonegal announced the decision to suspend Bayshore High School Principal David Underhill without pay for three days after an incident at the Banana Factory nightclub on June 17.

According to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Underhill got into an altercation with a man he thought was videotaping him and his wife dancing. He was not arrested and, in exchange for the state dropping the charges, he agreed to enter a 90-day pre-trial intervention program, which the victim agreed to.

"We must - and will - hold all of our administrators to a high level of professional conduct at all times," Superintendent McGonegal said in a release. "David Underhill has been a fine principal and we have complete trust in his ability to continue to lead Bayshore High School. However, he realizes he had a lapse in judgment, made a mistake and he has fully accepted responsibility and the consequences for his actions."

Underhill has been the principal at Bayshore High since 2000.
