LAKELAND, Florida - A woman was set on fire inside a Lakeland home, and the man behind it committed several other crimes throughout the city before tips from the public helped to track him down, according to police.

Lakeland Police Lt. Ruben Garcia says the 26-year-old woman was sitting in a chair when 32-year-old Joshua Kimbrough burned her. Witnesses reported seeing the woman run from the home at 1117 N. Stella Avenue.

Police say Kimbrough then traveled about a third of a mile to a convenience store, where he held a family at gunpoint and stole their van.

"He then went on up North 98, where he allegedly committed a burglary in a residential area up there, later using a credit card from that burglary to gas up the stolen vehicle," Lt. Garcia says.

On Saturday morning, Kimbrough was found in North Lakeland, thanks to help from the public. However, police say he wasn't exactly cooperative.

"He was concealed underneath the residence in a cross-basin," Garcia says. "The dogs located him there."

During the arrest, two of those K9 unit dogs bit Kimbrough, leaving him with minor injuries. He'll be booked into jail once he leaves the hospital.

The woman who was burned remains in critical condition.
