TAMPA, Fla. -- Florida is one of a dozen swing states that are targets in this year's presidential election. That's why political supporters are wasting no time trying to drum up support for their candidates.

Mitt Romney supporters took part in the GOP's Super Saturday  in Brandon. It's one of 30 events statewide. Volunteers were busy on the phones, making about 3,500 phone calls, while others were out knocking on doors at about 300 Hillsborough County homes hoping to sway voters.

This is the earliest Republicans have started on the Get Out the Vote campaign. There are four other Super Saturdays still to come, one each month leading up to the November election.

Meanwhile, President Obama's supporters were in Wesley Chapel today going door to door to connect with voters. Volunteers talked to residents about President Obama's efforts over the last three years to get the economy back on track.

Campaign worker Elena McCullough says they target the homes of Independents and Democrats, but she says they also reach out to registered Republicans who've expressed an interest in the president or have attended one of their campaign events in the past.
