7-year-old Jennifer Marteliz disappeared while walking home from school in Tampa in 1982.
NORTH UNION TOWNSHIP, Penn. (KDKA) - Crews in Fayette County, Pennsylvania are searching for the remains of a Florida girl who has been missing for nearly 30 years.
They are digging near Uniontown, looking for the remains of Jennifer Marteliz. She was just 7 years old when she disappeared from Tampa, back in November of 1982.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports a woman came to police and says when she was a child, she remembers a next-door neighbor had a second home in Tampa, just blocks from where Jennifer disappeared. Around the time of Jennifer's disappearance, the woman claims she saw the neighbor remove a large plastic bag from the trunk of his car and the following day had a knee-deep hole in a wooded area filled in.
The Tribune-Review says the neighbor died in 1992. Police obtained search warrants for his old property, along with five others.
Jennifer's mother, Kathy Longo, wrote and self-published a book last year called Jennifer, Where Are You?
"I want Jennifer's name back out there," Longo told 10 News last November. "I want someone to see this story and to please call me and just give me any information."
