Fire crews say a neighbor noticed something burning outside the garage door in the 1400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue and alerted the family inside. All three Hampton family members were able to get out safely, however, two cats did not make it out in time.

The garage suffered severe damage estimated at over $100,000 and the residents do have another place to stay while clean up begins.

Sheriff's Arson detectives determined the origin of the fire was in a series of bags of old clothes and other items leaning against the wooden garage door. The actual cause of the fire is not known at this time.

The fire is still under investigation.
