(News-Press) -- The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical system currently centered over the northwestern Caribbean Sea.

The center is reporting a large area of cloudiness with showers and a few thunderstorms associated with a surface trough.

Although conditions are not expected to be particularly conducive for development of this system, areas of heavy rainfall are likely during the next couple of days over the Caymans, Cuba, the Bahamas and southern Florida.

The system has a 10 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone over the next 48 hours as it moves northwest at 5 to 10 mph.
