"I hope every lady in this town that hears about this and sees this or anything else, really pays attention to who's at their door" - Ralph Tennant
Temple Terrace, Florida - An elderly couple is talking about a scary experience at their home Friday, when they were viciously attacked by a stranger. The incident happened at Charlotte and Ralph Tennants home along Rainbow Street. Police have arrested 23-year-old Sydric Reynolds.
Charlotte said Reynolds started talking to her outside the couple's home along Rainbow Street about doing yard work. They went inside, and that's when the 78-year-old said Reynolds attacked. Next thing Charlotte knew, she was on the floor.
"I was kicking and screaming and he got a hand over my mouth and he had covered my eyes," said Charlotte. "Said if you don't stop screaming I will kill you. Now please don't scream. I will kill you, do you understand. I will kill you."
But Charlotte screamed loud enough that her husband came to the living room, where the 82-year-old said Reynolds hit him and caused a gash that needed eight stitches. Reynolds took off when another family member got involved.
Police said he then ran through an apartment complex in Tampa along Busch Boulevard, jumped a fence, ended up at a home along Busch Oaks Boulevard and forced his way inside. According to authorities Reynolds armed himself with a knife and hit a woman inside.
"He goes into the attic with the knife, says that he's got a gun. At that point the SWAT team from Temple Terrace along with Tampa Police surround the house," said spokesperson for the city of Temple Terrace, Michael Dunn.
Shortly after, police said Reynolds turned himself in.
The Tennants are glad he is off the street, again. They want others to learn from what happened to them.
"I hope every lady in this town that hears about this and sees this or anything else, really pays attention to who's at their door," said Ralph.
Reynolds faces a list of charges, including battery and false imprisonment. He was just released from prison back in February, after serving three years for burglary.
