TAMPA, Fla.- Police are alerting residents in South Tampa about a bold burglar they believe is responsible for entering six homes over the past six weeks, stealing personal belongings while residents are home.
The burglaries have all occurred in areas around Gandy Boulevard east of Westshore between sunset and midnight.
Hemu Adhikari is one of the latest victims. He says the burglar entered his home while his wife was in the shower. "Someone must have been watching her through the window," said Adhikari, who believes that's how the intruder knew where his wife hid her valuables.
Tampa police say in each instance the burglar entered through an unlocked window or door. In one case, he even entered through a doggie door.
"I think he's just looking for opportunity," said Lt. Ruben Delgado of the Tampa Police Department. "The unlocked window, the unlocked door, that's the easiest way to get in.
You can just walk in, walk out, steal the stuff, and leave."
Police are urging South Tampa residents to double check and make sure their doors and windows are secured. One of the victims even suggests adding lighting around the home.
Police are looking for a man, 19 to 25 years old, about 6' tall, with a thin to medium build. He has used a dark colored hooded sweatshirt or black t-shirt to conceal his face.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Tampa Police Department at (813) 231-6130.
