TAMPA, Fla. -- A Hillsborough County deputy was trapped in a patrol vehicle after an accident in Tampa.
The crash happened around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday on Windhorst and Falkenburg Road near the Falkenburg Road Jail. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says 30-year-old Deputy Michael Hannaford and 28-year-old Deputy Christopher Maffei were turning into the HSCO District 2 parking lot when they were struck by a 2002 Ford Taurus in the middle of the intersection.
The driver of the Taurus, 32-year-old Teresa Tymes, was not injured.
Deputy Hannaford, a 9-year veteran, had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was seriously injured and was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he is listed in serious, but stable, condition. Deputy Maffei received minor injuries.
The crash is still under investigation.
