TAMPA, Fla. -- The numbers that have been revealed for the Republican National Convention are impressive: 50,000 visitors, 15,000 journalists, and an estimated economic impact of more than $175 million dollars.
But how about $450,000 to rent the digital billboard across from the Tampa Bay Times Forum, or $40,000 to rent a home on Davis Islands for the week of the historic event?
Those are just some numbers 10 News has uncovered as local businesses and homeowners look to cash in during the August 27th convention.
Stephen Davis, the owner of The Luxury Box, located across the street from the Forum, tells 10 News he will likely rent his restaurant out for the week of the event to the tune of $225,000.
"At this time, we're talking to three different organizations, so we haven't signed a deal with anyone yet, but we anticipate that deal being signed within the next couple months," Davis said.
Clear Channel is shopping space on digital billboards along I-275 for $12,500 between August 20th and September 2nd. But if you want to be on the closest billboard to the convention, get out your checkbook. Clear Channel is selling all eight digital slots on its billboard across from the Forum for a mere $450,000.
In a sales packet to prospective buyers, Clear Channel writes, "Take this opportunity to capture the attention of RNC visitors walking the streets of Tampa Bay."
Many homeowners are also looking to make some money during the convention. Log onto Craigslist.com and you will find dozens of homes for rent during the week of the convention with people asking for a few thousand dollars to tens of thousands of dollars.
Even a homeowner in Tarpon Springs, more than 50 miles away from the convention site, is offering his 7-bedroom oceanfront home for $17,995.
