ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - Throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the Tampa Bay Rays' opening game Friday night, Florida Governor Rick Scott faced a chorus of boos from the crowd with modest applause mixed in.

The cool welcome was similar to the one Scott got when he threw out the first pitch at a Yankees spring training game in March.
However, the boobirds at Tropicana Field were encouraged by St. Pete political consultant Peter Schorsch, who created the well-hyped "Boo Rick Scott on Opening Day" Facebook page.
Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the stadium too, upset with the governor's recent executive order cutting funding to disabled care. The caretakers and patients were joined by teachers protesting Scott's passage of a merit pay bill.
Inside the stadium, Scott kept a smile on his face as he delivered the first pitch, a strong offering just a bit off the plate.
