Many Bay area schools to reopen on Tuesday

Tuesday School Announcements: County schools that will be open on Tuesday: Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Polk. Sarasota District Schools and Sarasota County Government offices, including parks, libraries and the Health Department, will also re-open Tuesday. USF resumes classes on Tuesday.

Monday School Announcements: County Schools closed on Monday: Citrus, DeSoto, Hardee, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota, Sumter
Pinellas County Pinellas County Schools have canceled all classes, practices and other activities for students on Monday, October 24, 2005 due to the probability of high winds and rain associated with Hurricane Wilma. Pinellas County Schools employees should not report to work on Monday but make plans to report on Tuesday unless other notifications are made. Sunstate Academy in Clearwater is closed on Monday. Closing for Monday, October 24, 2005 for Remington College both the Tampa and Largo Campuses for all students and faculty. Classes will resume on Tuesday, October 25, 2005. Northside Christian School and pre-school is closed Monday. The Canterbury School of Florida will be closed Monday, and re-open on Tuesday. Admiral Farragut Academy will be closed Monday. The University of Phoenix West Florida Campus has canceled classes for Monday for the Temple Terrace and St. Petersburg/Clearwater locations.
Hillsborough County The School District of Hillsborough County has canceled classes for Monday, October 24, due to the likelihood of strong winds and rains related to Hurricane Wilma. Students and District employees should plan on returning to school or work on Tuesday unless notified otherwise University of Tampa extends closure through Monday 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21-- Given the unpredictability of Hurricane Wilma, the UT Emergency Operations Team has extended the University closure through Monday, including classes, events and all operations except for essential services. This closure applies to all students, faculty and staff. The University campus will be locked down and all remaining residential students are being urged to depart. If Hillsborough County emergency officials order an evacuation, anyone remaining on campus will be transported a the public shelter. Closing for Monday, October 24, 2005 for Remington College both the Tampa and Largo Campuses for all students and faculty. Classes will resume on Tuesday, October 25, 2005. Classes at International Academy of Design & Technology in Tampa will be canceled for Monday October 24th. Please contact the college main phone number for additional information on other cancellations. Stetson University College of Law’s Tampa Law Center at 1700 N. Tampa St. and main Gulfport campus at 1401 61st St. S. will cancel classes and events as of 9 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23, as a precaution to Hurricane Wilma. Classes and events at both campuses will not resume until at least 7 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25. Libraries at both campuses will close 9 p.m. Sunday and not reopen until at least 7 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25. Land of Learning Academy Inc. in Town-n-Country will be closed on Monday. Berkeley Prepatory School in Tampa will be closed Monday. The Cambridge School will be closed Monday. USF classes are cancelled Monday, essential offices and services are open. The USF Medical clinics WILL REMAIN OPEN.
Polk County Polk schools closed on Monday, October 24 (October 21, 2005) As a precaution for the possible effects of Hurricane Wilma, Polk County public schools will be closed Monday, October 24 for all students and staff. In accordance with school district policy, all extra-curricular activities and events, including athletics, scheduled for Monday, October 24 will be suspended. School officials made the decision to close schools based on current weather information and collaboration with the appropriate government and public safety agencies including the Polk County Emergency Operations Center. Many factors were considered in this decision. Among the highest priorities of the Polk County school district is the safety of students and staff. In addition to the possible effects of Hurricane Wilma, many Polk schools are hurricane shelters and could be activated to serve that purpose for residents of other areas in Florida. At this point, we anticipate that schools will open and buses will run as scheduled on Tuesday, October 25. If it becomes necessary to cancel school for Tuesday, October 25, that announcement will be made by 1 p.m., Monday, October 24 and will be posted on the district's Web site.
Manatee County MCC Schedules Monday Cancellation Due to Hurricane Wilma Manatee Community College (MCC) offices will close and operations and all activities at MCC Bradenton, MCC Venice and the Center for Innovation and Technology at MCC Lakewood Ranch, and all other locations will be canceled from 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, through Monday, Oct. 24, as a precautionary measure due to Hurricane Wilma. All regularly scheduled classes and operations will continue through the weekend until the 5 p.m. closure on Sunday. MCC also conducts traffic safety and other noncredit classes on week days and weekends. Those classes, as well as the college library, Academic Resource Centers and Dental Hygiene Clinic also are canceled Monday. Regular college hours, classes and all activities are expected to resume on their normal schedule Tuesday, Oct. 25. Any change in the resumption of college operations will be announced by college officials on the college Web site,, on the college phone lines: 941-752-5000; 941-408-1300, 941-363-7000, and through local news outlets.
Pasco County Pasco public schools are closed Monday. Pasco-Hernando Community College will be closed Monday and Tuesday. Normal classes resume Wednesday. Victorious Life Academy and Daycare, Victorious Church Offices are closed Monday.
Hernando County All Hernando County public schools closed Monday. The public information center (352-754-4083) will be staffed until 11pm Sunday, and reopens 5:30 a.m. Monday Pasco-Hernando Community College will be closed Monday and Tuesday. Normal classes resume Wednesday.
Hardee County Hardee county schools will be closed on Monday. South Florida Community College has cancelled activities as of 5:00pm today through Monday.
Citrus County All public schools are closed in Citrus County Monday due to Hurricane Wilma, the county announced Sunday afternoon.
Levy County All schools in Levy County will remain open on Monday due to Hurricane Wilma. The school board will monitor the situation and announce any changes on Monday, the sheriff's office reported.
