Lakeland, Florida - It was a website designed to let men share pornographic pictures of their wives and girlfriends. Now it’s gaining national attention because of the gruesome and gory snapshots of slain Afghans and Iraqis. The pictures were posted by American troops, according to the site’s owner, who solicited the pictures in exchange for free access to his site. Bill Powell lives across the street from the Lakeland home listed on the website’s registration. Bill Powell, Neighbor: ”I think it's pretty sick.” There's an even stronger reaction from the Pentagon, which is still reeling form the Abu Ghraib prison scandal. A spokesman calls the corpse postings despicable and unacceptable. But an army spokesman says an initial inquiry can't prove who posted the pictures. Paul Boyce, Army Spokesman: ”While this may not rise to the level of a felony crime, it's still serious.” The website's owner, 27-year-old Chris Wilson, defends his site. Chris Wilson, Website Owner: ”[It's] showing the real side of war. The side of war that's not being stifled by the Bush administration.” Because of the site’s pornographic content, and because of its vulgar web address, 10 News is not reporting the site’s name. Wilson says he has 220,000 members, but won't say how many of them are paying customers. Registration usually cost $10 for a three-month membership.
